Background

This landfill has been in operation for over 15 years, covering approximately 120,000 m². As it enters the closure phase, assessing the integrity of the liner system became a critical task. Traditional manual inspection could not effectively cover the entire area or pinpoint micro-defects in the deep liner layer.

Challenge

The project faced three major challenges: large area with complex terrain and thick waste cover; detection without disrupting ongoing operations; and separate evaluation of both the HDPE geomembrane and compacted clay composite liner.

Solution

The SENEVEN team deployed proprietary high-density electrical leak detection technology combined with 3D geological modeling algorithms to achieve non-destructive testing of the entire liner system. High-precision electrode arrays collected tens of thousands of potential data points, with inversion algorithms pinpointing the 3D coordinates of each leak.

Results

Successfully detected 37 liner defects of varying severity, including 12 high-risk leak points

Minimum detectable hole diameter of just 1mm, far exceeding industry average

Generated comprehensive 3D leak distribution maps for precise repair guidance

Post-repair leakage rate reduced by 98% based on SENEVEN report recommendations
