Background

A hazardous-waste landfill in East China — ~80,000 m² double-HDPE composite liner in service for over 15 years — required a systematic safety assessment as concerns mounted over long-term liner integrity and environmental safety.

Challenge

Detecting subtle defects beneath a double-liner system, beneath cover and after 15 years of stress, while integrating leachate, groundwater and gas evidence into an overall safety verdict.

Solution

Full-coverage ELMD electrical leak detection on the basal liner; multi-parameter leachate analysis; comprehensive sampling across surrounding groundwater wells; and gas-migration mapping — combined into a complete chain of safety evidence.

Results

Liner system found largely intact with only minor localized anomalies

Issued a complete safety performance report supporting operations and risk control

Recommended targeted repair and enhanced monitoring of anomaly zones

Client refined operational strategy to further reduce environmental risk
